Павильон "Искусство и промышленность"Второе по возрасту здание в комплексе Смитсоновского института [ Smithsonian Institution] в г. Вашингтоне. Построено в викторианском стиле в 1881. С 1976 в музее содержится более 10 тыс. экспонатов с Филадельфийской выставки Столетия [ Centennial Exposition, Philadelphia's]; здесь же - всевозможные тематические выставки, отражающие развитие промышленности, известные коллекции часов, декоративно-прикладного искусства, мебель, музыкальные инструменты, старинные локомотивы, военные реликвии, телеграф Морзе [ Morse, Samuel Finley Breese (F. Выставка 1876, посвященная 100-летию образования США. На площади 236 акров (95,5 га) располагались 167 павильонов. Среди 30 тыс. экспонатов впервые демонстрировались пишущая машинка, телефонный аппарат Белла [ Bell Telephone Co.], воздушный тормоз [ air brake] Вестингауза [ Westinghouse, George], паровая машина Корлисса [ Corliss steam engine], сноповяжущая жатка и другие достижения техники. На этой выставке американцы впервые попробовали экзотический фрукт - банан, который продавался в обертке из фольги и стоил 10 центов.
