    Das valencianische Volksfest hat seinen Ursprung im 16. Jahrhundert. Damals war es bei der Tischlerzunft üblich, die 'parots', also die Holzstützen, an denen das Arbeitslicht hing, ins Feuer zu werfen. Diese 'parots' nahmen allmählich Puppengestalt an und erhielten den Namen 'ninots'. Bei den Sankt-Josef-Feierlichkeiten, vom 16. bis zum 19. März, werden heutzutage diese 'ninots' öffentlich auf Holzgestellen, den sogenannten 'fallas', ausgestellt. Die Figuren stellen auf satirische und allegorische Weise die soziale und politische Aktualität des Landes dar. Eine der Puppen wird 'begnadigt' und kommt in ein Museum, während die anderen am Sankt-Josefs-Tag um Mitternacht verbrannt werden. Hier spricht man dann von der 'cremá', d.h. der Verbrennung.
