Таким образом, не надо повторять программный код, достаточно обратится к API. Программисты создают игры, как бы придерживаясь определенного стандарта. Если написать программу на своём коде, её использование будет возможным только на какой-то определенной видео карте, и при этом не будет работать с другими. Получается, создатели игр, и видео карт разрабатывают продукты, понимающие друг друга. Сейчас распространены API OpenGL, Direct3D и Glide.
