Оценка будущего развития экономики, научно-технического прогресса, социальных изменений в обществе в долгосрочном периоде. В экономико-математических прогнозах эти стороны развития рассматриваются в единстве. Д.п. обычно относится к периоду в 10 - 15 лет, однако есть и так называемые сверхдолгосрочные прогнозы, или, правильнее, дальнесрочные, охватывающие существенно большие промежутки времени. Они, например, относятся к энергетике, градостроительству, лесному хозяйству, к состоянию природной среды. Как правило, подобные прогнозы существенно менее детализированы, чем кратко- и среднесрочные, в них шире применяются вероятностные оценки (см. Вероятность), а часто — и качественные суждения. Строятся научно-технические, социально-экономические и демографические прогнозы, каждый из которых объединяет и взаимоувязывает результаты многих частных прогнозов: развития тех или иных отраслей техники, производства товаров народного потребления, совершенствования экономического механизма и др. The study of relationships in the economy. Its purpose is to analyze and explain the behaviour of the various economic elements. The body of economic theory can be divided into two broad categories, positive theory and welfare theory. Positive theory is an attempt to analyze the operation of the economy without considering the desirability of its results in terms of ultimate goals.
