Химическое соединение, способное проявлять кислотные или основные свойства в зависимости от природы второго компонента, участвующего в кислотно-основном взаимодействии (одно и то же А.с., реагируя с сильной кислотой, имеет тенденцию проявлять основные свойства, а при реакции с сильными основаниями - кислотные); к А.с. относятся аминокислоты, белки, нуклеопротеиды и т.д.; А.с. используются в методах разделения белков (изоэлектрическое фокусирование) в градиенте рН.
