It is a narrow and smoothly finished light-weight all-wool fabric, dyed in light colours and having a deep nap, much used for women's and children's garments.

    All-wool rugs made in Caucasia from white, grey or dyed wool yarns. The pile warp is tied in Ghiordes knot. Geometrical designs in blue, yellow and red colours. The ends have long knotted fringes. These are similar to the Soumak rugs, but have a denser pile.

    All-wool tapestry rugs woven in Transcaucasia. They are made in loose weave and from coarse dyed yarns in geometrical designs. They are also called Kashmir, but the rugs are not of the Cashmere quality of wool. They are made in small and large sizes. The knots are tied in a slanting direction with alternate rows in a reverse direction causing the underside of the rug to have a herring-bone effect. Two rows of tufts are knotted for the insertion of two ground picks. The term is a corrupted form of Shemaka, which town is a weaving centre.

    Plain weave all-wool cloth, used largely for men's wear. Woven from soft yarns and well felted. The face is smooth and soft. Piece-dyed in dark shades. For coatings the cloth is a popular one as it wears well. Thibets are also made in an 8-shaft weave, 711/2-in. wide, 40 ends and 40 picks per inch, 20-oz. per yard and 15-oz. per yard finished. The warp has about 20 per cent of cotton, and weft 15 per cent of cotton mixed with wool.
