Под AOR подразумевают независимое баинговое агентство, занимающееся закупкой медийных возможностей для другого агентства или группы агентств, обслуживающих того или иного клиента. Однако в большинстве случаев, говоря Agency-of-Record, англоговорящий человек имеет в виду агентство полного цикла, обладающее эксклюзивными правами на оказание рекламных услуг определенному клиенту. Например, в январе 2004 года американские новостные СМИ опубликовали новость, говорящую о том, что мексиканская сеть закусочных Chipotle наняла лондонское агентство Mother, открывшее недавно Нью-Йоркский офис, своим Agency-of-Record. Под этим подразумевалось, что известный креативный бутик будет разрабатывать рекламу для Chipotle.
