2 Ageing
A process used in dyeing and consists of letting a cloth lie or. hang loosely and exposed to the air in an ageing machine. In these machines air enters near the floor and when saturated is removed by means of ventilators. Ageing was chiefly employed by bleachers for the removal of any chlorine remaining in the cloth by oxidation but is now used in many branches of finishing. ———————— Storing of alkali cellulose for the required period, which varies according to the nature of the spinning process. -
