Суммы, вычитаемые из облагаемого налогом дохода в рамках системы налогообложения с целью предоставления льгот по семейным обстоятельствам. Основные скидки в системе налогообложения Великобритании - это скидка, которой охвачены все налогоплательщики, скидки для семей, а также для неполных семей и скидка налога по возрасту (age relief). Личная скидка с подоходного налога налогоплательщика в финансовом году, который начинался 5 апреля 1993 г., составила 3445 ф. ст.; для лиц старше 64 лет она равнялась 4200 ф. ст., а для лиц старше 74 лет - 4370 ф. ст. Налогоплательщики более старшего возраста платят налог по более низким ставкам, если их совокупный доход превышает 14 200 ф. ст.
