21 Superlative degree: adjectives
1) Превосходная степень прилагательных в английском языке может образовываться синтетически (прибавлением суффикса - est) или аналитически (с помощью конструкции со словом most).а) Синтетически образуют превосходную степень односложные прилагательные (кроме right и wrong), а также часть двусложных прилагательных: все оканчивающиеся на -y, а также прилагательные clever, narrow, quiet, simpleб) Многие двусложные прилагательные могут образовывать превосходную степень как синтетически, так и аналитическиsevere (строгий) — the severest/the most severe (самый строгий)
pleasant (приятный) — the pleasantest/the most pleasant (самый приятный)
в) Только аналитически образуют превосходную степень некоторые двусложные прилагательные (в частности, все оканчивающиеся на -ing, -ed, -ful и - less), а также прилагательные, состоящие из трех или более слогов.В случае сомнений способ образования превосходной степени двусложных прилагательных следует устанавливать по словарюг) несколько прилагательных образуют превосходную степень нерегулярно или имеют несколько форм превосходной степени:far (дальний) — farthest/furthest (самый дальний)old (старый) — oldest (самый старый)/eldest (самый старший)Также нерегулярно образуют превосходную степень следующие местоимения-прилагательные:much/many (много) — most (наибольший)2) Прилагательные в превосходной степени, как правило, употребляются с определенным артиклем the (или притяжательным местоимением). Без артикля употребляются прилагательные в превосходной степени, если сравнивается степень проявления какой-либо характеристики одного и того же предмета в различных ситуацияхI feel best when I've taken a walk — Я чувствую себя лучше всего после прогулки
3) После прилагательных в превосходной степени (а также после слов first, last, next) употребляется инфинитивный оборот, соответствующий определительному придаточному предложению, если подлежащее основного предложения и инфинитивного оборота совпадаютHe will be the oldest man to fly in space — Он будет самым старым из тех, кто летал в космос
She was the first to come — Она пришла первой
