Специальный регистр процессора, в котором АЛУ хранит при вычислениях промежуточные результаты арифметических и логических операций, что намного быстрее, чем запоминать их в ОЗУ. Кроме того, аккумулятор используется в операциях сдвигов и ввода-вывода (см. input-output mapping). Современные процессоры часто используют в качестве аккумулятора несколько или любой из своих регистров, поэтому для них слова "аккумулятор" и "регистр", как правило, синонимы.
