В основном такие акты пуританского характера вводились в колониях Новой Англии [ New England]. В ряде штатов законы о закрытии магазинов по воскресеньям существовали и в XX в. - в 1961 Верховный суд США [ Supreme Court, U.S.] подтвердил их конституционностьтж Sunday blue law, Sunday closing law2) Статут или распоряжение, ограничивающие или запрещающие то, что в данной местности считается аморальным. Касается потребления алкоголя, курения, некоторых развлечений. Кульминацией такого рода законов в XX в. стал общенациональный "сухой закон" [ Prohibition]. К настоящему времени большинство из них отменено или игнорируется. Возможно, выражение происходит от свода законов г. Нью-Хейвена, шт. Коннектикут, напечатанного на бумаге голубого цвета. Эти законы были в свое время широко разрекламированы С. Питерсом [Peters, Samuel A.] в его книге "Всеобщая история Коннектикута" ["General History of Connecticut"] (1781), которая сегодня характеризуется как "красочная, но в высшей степени неточная".
