Полифункциональная сериновая протеиназа сыворотки крови, продукт протеолитической активации протромбина prothrombin, ключевой компонент системы свертывания крови blood clotting( coagulation) человека и животных. Т. инициирует и стимулирует процесс тромбообразования, активируя тромбоциты путем взаимодействия со специфическим рецептором на их поверхности, а также факторы V, VIII, XI и XIII и обеспечивает протеолитическое превращение фибриногена в фибрин. Одновременно осуществляет антикоагулянтные функции, активируя протеин C. Повышенный уровень Т. в плазме, например под действием мутации G20210A в его гене, приводит к наследственным тромбофилиям (thrombophilia), а дефицит Т. к гемофилиям haemophilia.
