Хотя это слово вполне похоже (как мне кажется) на имя Паука на каком-нибудь чужом (оркском) языке, на самом деле оно составлено из "she" ("она") и "lob" (диалектное английское слово, означающее "паук"; ср. песенку Бильбо в 8-й главе книги "Хоббит"). В нидерландском переводе сохранено имя Shelob, тогда как в шведском использовано довольно неудачное слово Honmonstret. -
