Шверин, столица федеральной земли Мекленбург-Передняя Померания. Город расположен на юго-западном берегу Шверинского озера, в окружении других больших и малых озёр, живописное положение Шверина отражено в его образном названии "город семи озёр" (Stadt der sieben Seen). Архитектурный символ города – бывший дворец мекленбургских герцогов (Schweriner Schloss) – был построен в XIX в. На острове Бургинзель (Burginsel) посреди озёр. Представляет собой единое архитектурное целое, несмотря на то, что в нём угадываются черты таких стилей как готика, ренессанс, барокко. Дворец украшают 365 башен и башенок (образцами служили некоторые французские замки). В старой части города сохранилось много прекрасных зданий придворного архитектора XIX в. Георга Адольфа Демлера (Demmler Georg Adolf, 1804-1886). Отрасли промышленности: машиностроение (машины для обработки пластмасс, корабельная оснастка), электротехника, мебельная кожевенная и пищевая промышленность. Культурный и туристический центр. Немецкая Академия сценического искусства (Deutsche Schauspielakademie), Мекленбургский государственный театр (Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater), Театр им. Фрица Ройтера (Fritz-Reuter-Bühne) с постановками на нижненемецком диалекте. Шверинский государственный архив (Schweriner Staatsarchiv) – одно из крупнейших хранилищ документов в Северной Германии. Бредель Вилли (1901-1964), писатель, в 1936-1939 гг. участник войны в Испании. После окончания Второй мировой войны с 1945 по 1949 гг. работал в земле Мекленбург-Передняя Померания. С 1962 г. президент Академии искусств ГДР. Местом действия многих произведений В.Бределя являются города на севере Германии, например, Шверин – в романе "Новая глава", Гамбург – в трилогии "Родные и знакомые" и романе "Испытание". Последний отражает трагические события 1930-х гг., когда писатель находился в заключении в гамбургском концентрационном лагере Фульсбюттель (Fuhlsbüttel). В состав земли входят острова Рюген и Узедом (его восточная оконечность принадлежит Польше). Столица – г. Шверин. Крупные города: Росток, Штральзунд, Висмар, Нойбранденбург, Гюстро, Грайфсвальд. Самая малонаселённая земля Германии. Основные отрасли экономики: сельское хозяйство, судостроение, рыболовство, туризм, курортный бизнес. Паромное сообщение с Данией, Швецией, Россией, Латвией, Литвой. Два университета, три технических вуза, Высшая школа музыки и театра (Hochschule für Musik und Theater), научно-исследовательские институты общества им. Макса Планка, Общества им. Фраунхофера, Общества им. Лейбница. В 1996 г. в Ростоке основан Институт демографии им. Макса Планка. Природа красива и разнообразна: много озёр, лесов, болот, пустошей, береговая линия Балтийского моря окаймлена многочисленными курортами, пляжами. Благодаря малонаселённости территории здесь сохраняются редкая фауна и флора. Более половины площади Мекленбурга-Передней Померании является памятником природы (чего нет ни в одной другой земле). Своеобразие ландшафта отражено в романтических полотнах живописца Каспара Давида Фридриха, уроженца Грайфсвальда. Скульптор Эрнст Барлах долгие годы жил и работал в г. Гюстро. Пионер воздухоплавания Отто Лилиенталь родился в г. Анклам. Фриц Ройтер, зачинатель литературы на нижненемецком диалекте, родился в г. Штавенхаген. Современный писатель Уве Йонсон посвятил своему родному краю романы и рассказы. Среди местных блюд много рыбных, т.к. реки и озёра Мекленбурга изобилуют пресноводными видами рыбы, такими как щука, угорь. Популярны блюда из гусиного мяса с тушёным черносливом (особенно ко Дню Св.
