(secure sockets layer)Le SSL (secure sockets layer) est un protocole de cryptage largement utilisé pour assurer la sécurité et la confidentialité des informations transitant par l’internet. Développé par Netscape, en collaboration avec Microsoft, le SSL devient un standard inclus dans la plupart des navigateurs et des serveurs web. A ce protocole, toujours très utilisé, succède maintenant le protocole TLS (transport layer security), non compatible avec le protocole SSL. -

(transport layer security)Développé à partir de 1996, le protocole TLS (transport layer security) est basé sur le protocole SSL (secure sockets layer), un système de cryptage largement utilisé pour assurer la sécurité et la confidentialité des informations transitant par l’internet. Présent dans les versions récentes des navigateurs, le protocole TLS fait suite au protocole SSL, et n’est pas compatible avec celui-ci. -
3 cryptage
Le cryptage est une technique permettant de protéger certaines informations transitant par l’internet au moyen d’un système de clés (de 40 à 128 bits), pour authentification de l’usager et contrôle d’intégrité. Cette technique est également utilisée pour l’échange des données confidentielles et pour les transactions commerciales, par exemple pour l’achat de livres ou de musique en ligne. Les deux princiaux protocoles de cryptage utilisés sur le web sont le SSL (secure sockets layer) et son successeur, le TLS (transport layer security). PGP (pretty good privacy) est un sigle utilisé pour définir un logiciel de cryptage.
