    1877-1961
       Nacido en Rochester, Nueva York, graduado en la McGill University, en Montreal, Canada, fue actor de teatro antes de unirse, en 1909, a la Kalem Com pany, productora cinematografica, como actor. En 1911 empieza a dirigir. Sucesivamente lo hara para Jesse L. Lasky y para Universal. Alli realiza su primera pelicula sonora y, ademas, debido a sus conocimientos del idioma, las versiones espanolas de cuatro filmes, entre ellos el celeberrimo Dracula, en 1931. Lejos ya su etapa de actor, sigue dirigiendo hasta 1937, mas un ultimo filme en 1946. En 1939 vuelve a su ocupacion primera, de actor, ahora en pequenos papeles, la mayoria de ellos sin acreditacion. Sus cuatro westerns son productos tipicos del genero en los 30.
