Верхний Рейн, департамент на В. Франции, в Эльзасе, на границе с ФРГ и Швейцарией. Площадь 3,5 тыс. км2. Население 613 тыс. чел. (1974). Административный центр — Кольмар. Основная часть территории — Верхнерейнская низм.; на З. — Вогезы (до 1426 м). Хозяйство имеет индустриально-аграрный характер. Около 36% населения занято в промышленности и 9% в сельском хозяйстве (1968). Хлопчатобумажная промышленность (Мюлуз, Кольмар) и машиностроение (Мюлуз). Общенациональное значение имеет добыча калийной соли в районе Мюлуза; добывается нефть и урановая руда. На Большом Эльзасском канале и в Вогезах — ГЭС. В горах — пастбищное животноводство.
