LXX; Jos., Ant. 1, 279) ἐκεῖ (Judg 19:7; Tob 6:1BA) Mt 21:17; εἴς τι Lk 21:37 (cp. σκάμμα, ατος, τό (σκάπτω; Pla. et al.) ‘someth. that has been dug, trench’ (PCol IV, 78 passim [III B.C.]), then arena (surrounded by a trench, or dug up and covered w. sand; CIG 2758), a favorite in metaph. usage (Polyb. 38, 18, 5; Epict. 4, 8, 26) ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ ς. εἶναι be in the same arena 1 Cl 7:1.—DELG s.v. σκάπτω. -
