    фиорды Мальборо (ряд узких морских заливов на северо-восточной оконечности Южного острова, вдающихся на несколько десятков километров в глубь суши; основные из них – залив королевы Шарлотты {Queen Charlotte Sound} и залив Пелорус {Pelorus Sound}; их посещали Кук, Беллинсгаузен и др. мореплаватели. В 1859 назван именем первого герцога Мальборо, а столица округа, на территории кот. расположены фиорды, названа в честь выигранного герцогом сражения при Бленхейме {Blenheim}.
