6 Carrageen Moss
A kind of seaweed, or algas (Chrondrus Crispus) found on the coasts of Ireland. It is first bleached and dried by exposure to the atmosphere and in this state is sold. When boiled it forms a highly gelatinous substance, like isinglass. The early Irish linen manufacturers used large quantities for flax dressing. It was also used, when boiled with milk, as a food, making a nourishing jelly. Also known as Ireland moss and Irish moss. -

The fibre known as Spanish Moss, grown in the Southern States of America. It is used as stuffing for mattresses. -
8 Ceylon Moss
Closely resembles Carragheen Moss. A seaweed of the Florida: family and occurs in large quantities on East Indian coasts. The numerous branched twigs, which are white or yellowish-white, are very brittle when dry. -
9 Iceland Moss
A plant that grows in large quantities in the plains of high Northern latitudes, and also in many hilly districts of more temperate countries, Sweden, Spain, Germany and Austria. It contains a gum similar to pectin and is used as a stiffening and binding agent in sizing cotton goods. Carrageen moss is sometimes called by this name. -

11 Mora Hair Moss
Curly fibres obtained from the stem of the Southern moss, in the Gulf States and Central and South America. Used for stuffing. -

A trade name for a yellowish, curly and soft fibre, obtained from the leaf stalks of the tree fern in China. Used for stuffing. -
14 Satin Moss
A worsted fabric made in narrow widths about 24-in. in fancy twill weaves, used for dress goods. Piece-dyed and soft finish. The cloth is also known as " Albatross." One quality is made 60 ends and 52 picks per inch, 30's warp, 40's weft, worsted crepe yarns. -
