10 Istle Fibre
A fibre obtained from the leaves of several species of plants growing wild in the deserts of Northern Mexico and commercially known as Tampico hemp. They are very coarse and strong and used for brush bristles, cheap cords and twines. The fibre is 15-in. to 35-in. in length, and somewhat gummy. -

A variety of istle fibre but not quite so strong or flexible as true istle. It is nearly white and averages from 20-in. to 40-in. in length. -

A fibre obtained from the Karatas Plumieri which grows throughout tropical America. The young leaves give fine, white fibres, while the older leaves give coarser fibres. It is used for nets, cordage, sacking, etc. This fibre is sometimes called the Mexican istle, or ixtle. -
20 Tampico Hemp
Fibre obtained from the Agave Leteracantha plant, grown in Mexico and used by the natives for cordage. The fibres are very coarse, stiff and harsh but pliant; the length varies from 15-in. to 24-in. This is the Istle or Ixtle fibre.
