♦ ( ENG Huguenots)название французских протестантов 16 и 17 вв. По всей вероятности, происходит от немецкого Eidgenossen (сообщник, заговорщик). Так называли тех, кто оказывал сопротивление герцогам Гизам (1562-1594). Свыше 30 ООО гугенотов было убито во время резни в Варфоломеевскую ночь.
