(1898-1937) Гершвин, ДжорджКомпозитор, считающийся самым "американским" из музыкальных классиков. Приобрел известность сначала как автор эстрадных песен. Писал музыку для бродвейских мюзиклов [ Broadway, musical], популярные песни, широко используя элементы негритянского фольклора и джаза. Первым большим успехом стала оперетта "Леди, ведите себя хорошо" ["Lady Be Good"]. Автор концерта для фортепьяно и скрипки с оркестром "Рапсодия в блюзовых тонах" ["Rhapsody in Blue"] (1924), сюиты "Американец в Париже" ["An American in Paris"] (1928), фолк-оперы "Порги и Бесс" ["Porgy and Bess"] (1935) - одного из самых популярных музыкальных произведений американской классики. После смерти Гершвина по многим его музыкальным произведениям были поставлены фильмы.
