ζιζάνιον, ου, τό (ApcMos, ch. 16; Geopon.; Etym. Mag. p. 411, 47) prob. (Suda: ζιζάνιον• ἡ ἐν τῷ σίτῳ αἶρα) troublesome weed in grainfields, darnel, cheat (Geopon. 2, 43 τὸ ζιζάνιον, τὸ λεγόμενον αἶρα, φθείρει τὸν σῖτον. Concerning αἶρα [without ζ.] the same statement in Theophr., HP 8, 8, 3, CP 4, 4, 8); resembling wheat, in our lit. only pl. (Geopon. 10, 87, 1; 14, 1, 5) in Mt in the parable of the ‘weeds (tares) among the wheat’ (cp. also Psellus p. 268, 17 οἱ τὰ ζιζάνια ἐπισπείροντες) Mt 13:25ff, 29f, 36, 38, 40 (s.
