(1904-1991) Гайзел, Теодор Сус ("д-р Сус")Писатель и иллюстратор. В 1937 под псевдонимом "доктор Сус" опубликовал свою первую книжку для детей "Подумать только, ведь я это видел на Малбери-стрит" ["And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street"], моментально распроданную и переизданную. В 1940-46 выступал как политический карикатурист и вместе с женой как автор документальных фильмов для армии. Три фильма получили премии "Оскар" (1946, 1947 и 1951). После войны вернулся к книгам для детей: "Хортон слышит Ху" ["Horton Hears a Who"] (1954), "Как Гринч украл Рождество" ["How the Grinch Stole Christmas"] (1957) и др. В 1957 книжкой "Кот в Шляпе" ["The Cat in the Hat"] открыл серию для самых маленьких "Простейший д-р Сус для малышей" ["The Simplest Seuss for Youngest Use"]; среди них - "Алфавит д-ра Суса" ["Dr. Seuss's ABC"] (1963), "Попрыгай на Папе" ["Hop on Pop"] (1963) и др., многие из которых были рассчитаны на ограниченный словарный запас маленького читателя (50, 100 слов и т.п.). Серия получила прекрасные отзывы педагогов. В 1966 и 1970 на ТВ были сняты мультфильмы по книге "Гринч" и "Хортон слышит Ху".
