An all-silk damask made at Naples until the 19th century when a much cheaper cloth was made at Lyons and sold under the same name. The designs were always large floral effects, and the fabric used for upholstering expensive furniture. -

An imitation of the Oriental silk damasks, made in France using boiled-off silk warp and silk weft. Usual widths 30-in. or 56-in. The fabric is treated on the back with a gum and passed between heated rollers. Used for hangings and drapery. -
