    Философ, публицист, издатель. Автор книги "Перспективы американской жизни" ["The Promise of American Life"] (1909), содержавшей серьезную критику современной ему политической жизни страны. Его идеи оказали влияние на программу "Нового национализма" [ New Nationalism] Т. Рузвельта [ Roosevelt, Theodore (Teddy)], который в последние годы дружил с Кроули. В 1914 вместе с У. Вейлем [Weyl, Walter] и У. Липпманом [ Lippmann, Walter] основал журнал "Нью рипаблик" [ New Republic, The] - рупор идей реформизма и либерализма.
