Ветвь индейских языков эсселен-юмской подгруппы [Esselen-Yuman]; включает языки 11 племен, из которых ныне существуют валапаи [ Walapai], кокопа [ Cocopah], марикопа [ Maricopa], мохаве [ Mojave], хавасупаи [ Havasupai], юма [ Yuma] и явапаи [ Yavapai]. Общая численность этих племен в 1990 составляла свыше 7 тыс. человек
