Христианская протестантская конфессия. Организована автономными конгрегациями. Баптисты считают, что истинная церковь состоит из верующих, которым не нужна церковная иерархия, выступают с требованием отделения церкви от государства. Для баптистов в целом характерно отсутствие религиозной догмы, идеологическую основу своего движения находят в Евангелии. Баптисты не признают крещения младенцев, крещение осуществляется по достижении 12-летнего возраста. Для них характерны строгие моральные правила, запрет на употребление табака и спиртных напитков. США являются основным мировым центром распространения этой конфессии и ее второй родиной (после Англии). В американских колониях конфессия получила распространение с 1638 под влиянием проповедей Р.
