1 Ali, Muhammad
(р. 1942) Али, МухаммедБоксер. Настоящее имя Кассиусс Марцеллус Клей, мл. [Clay, Jr., Cassius Marcellus]. Начал заниматься боксом в г. Луивилле, шт. Кентукки, в 12 лет. Через полтора месяца выиграл свой первый матч. В течение последующих шести лет выступал как боксер-любитель, победил в 100 встречах из 108. В 1960 стал чемпионом Олимпийских игр по боксу, после чего перешел в профессиональный бокс. К 1963 выиграл все 19 профессиональных матчей, в которых принял участие. Одновременно прославился своим саморекламным заявлением "Я величайший!" ["I Am the Greatest"], записанным на пластинку с этим названием, которая разошлась огромным тиражом. В заявлении он обещал победить тогдашнего чемпиона мира С. Листона [Liston, Sonny] в восьмом раунде. 25 февраля 1964 состоялся знаменитый матч, в котором на седьмом раунде был зарегистрирован технический нокаут в пользу Клея. После этого матча он заявил о смене имени и фамилии, об обращении в ислам и вступлении в секту "Черных мусульман" [ Black Muslims]. Под разными предлогами результат матча 1964 был отменен, но при новой встрече с Листоном 25 мая 1965 Али победил его нокаутом на первой минуте первого раунда. Восемь раз в последующие два года успешно защищал титул чемпиона. За отказ от призыва в армию был осужден; после перерыва в несколько лет в 1970 вновь завоевал титул чемпиона мира, победив Джо Фрейзира [Frazier, Joe]. В 1978 проиграл титул Леону Спинксу [Spinks, Leon], но через полгода вернул его, став в третий раз чемпионом мира по боксу среди тяжеловесов. В 1990 включен в Международную галерею славы бокса [International Boxing Hall of Fame], в 1996 зажег олимпийский факел на открытии Игр в Атланте. Прославился напористостью в достижении цели и особым стилем борьбы на ринге — «порхать как бабочка и жалить как пчела» [‘float like a butterfly and sting like a bee']. Став членом организации «Чёрные мусульмане», он сменил прежнее имя Кассиус Клей [Clay, Cassius] на Мухаммед Али.
