ALCYONNE

A French made drapery cloth, woven in a lo-end warp satin weave from single warp and weft of varying colours. Qualities vary from 150 to 200 ends and 80 to 100 picks per inch.

A satin first made in France over 100 years ago in the common 5-shaft weave, two-fold warp and single weft, warp and weft of different colours. Owing to the number of ends being twice as many per inch as weft threads, the fabric had a warp face of one colour and a weft back of another. The same cloth with single warp ends was known as satin de Chine.

A medium heavy silk dress fabric closely woven in the 10-shaft warp satin weave and piece-dyed. The warp is grege and weft is tram silk. It is not so heavy as the duchesse mousseline. Used for dresses and linings. Imitations are made with cotton warp (see also Satin des Indes, Satin Alcyonne)
