    Panamericana sustantivo femenino:

    la Panamericana the Pan-American Highway
    LA PANAMERICANA
The Panamericana (the Pan-American highway) runs almost without a break for some 48,000 kilometres from Alaska to the southern tip of Chile, connecting the entire American continent. The project was first proposed in 1925 and construction began three years later, but the road has yet to cross the densely forested Darien Gap in Panama. For all its merits as a prestige project, and its concrete benefits as a means of communication, further construction is dogged by controversy over the real threat to the ecosystem of the rainforest and to the culture of the indigenous peoples who live in the Darien region.

  • 7 banda

(Sp. model spelled same [bánda], of disputed origin; the DRAE indicates that it comes from Germanic band 'sash, band'; according to Corominas it is from Old French bende, bande 'sash, band, or bandage')
Carlisle: 1925. Referenced by Carlisle as "a bright-colored triangular or square shaped piece of material folded to make a strip about 3 or 4 inches wide and worn around the forehead; used extensively by the male Indians of the Southwest." Similiar to a bandana, a term of Hindustani-Portuguese origin, according to the OED.

  • 8 diablo

(Sp. model spelled same [djáßlo] < Late Latin diabolum 'he who slanders or causes discord')
Carlisle: 1925. An exclamation meaning 'the devil!' Bentley says that it is often preceded by qué 'what a.' Diablo is also included in place names, such as Mount Diablo in northern California. The DRAE references diablo as 'devil.' It also glosses ¡ diablo! as an exclamation expressing surprise, admiration, disbelief, or disgust and ¡ qué diablos! as an expression of admiration or impatience. No doubt the borderlands cowhands learned such expressions from the vaqueros.

    Vocabulario Vaquero > diablo

  • 9 ladino

(Sp. model spelled same [laðino] < Latin latinum 'Latin.' In the Middle Ages it meant Romance, as opposed to Arabic, and referred to a Moor who could speak Latin; with reference to books, it applied to 'fine, learned, Latinlike' languages (according to Corominas), and later came to mean 'skillful,' 'astute,' or 'wise')
Texas: 1892. Originally, a wild longhorn, but more recently, a horse or cow that is vicious, wild, and unmanageable, and seems to possess a certain crafty intelligence. The DARE indicates that this term may be used as a noun or as an adjective. Clark notes that it is sometimes applied to a "crafty or wily person." In Spanish, this term originally applied to a person who knew Latin or was wise or learned in general. It has since come to mean 'clever' or 'knowledgeable.' Santamaría confirms that in Coahuila, Mexico, the term is used to refer to a bull that, having been at one point confined to a corral, on its return to the field is not only wild again but seems to possess a certain knowledge of humans that allows it to evade all the cowboys who attempt to capture it.
DARE: 1925. According to the DARE, white Dutch clover ( Tri-folium repens).

  • 11 Moqueño

Carlisle: 1925. A member of the Moqui tribe native to Northeastern Arizona and Central Western New Mexico. Cobos glosses it as a Moqui Indian.

    Vocabulario Vaquero > Moqueño

  • 12 mustang clover

California: 1925. A plant of the genus Gilia or the Linanthus montanus.

  • 13 pistola

(Sp. model spelled same [pistóla] < German pistole 'pistol')
Carlisle: 1925. A pistol. The DRAE glosses it as a short, generally semiautomatic firearm that one aims and shoots with one hand.

    Vocabulario Vaquero > pistola
