This is a warp protecting device. The term arises from the method of mounting the reed in quick running looms up to 45-in. reed space for weaving light-weight cloths. If a shuttle is trapped in the shed the lower baulk of the reed is caused to swing backwards by the shuttle pressure against the reed.
