Глагол to barnstorm и существительное barnstorming означают представление не очень высокого художественного уровня, которое, тем не менее, производило достаточно глубокое впечатление на неискушённую деревенскую публику. Позже этот термин использовали политические деятели, выступая на предвыборных собраниях перед избирателями «в амбарах».
