Performance management involves enabling people to perform their work to the best of their ability, meeting and perhaps exceeding targets and standards. Performance management can be coordinated by an interrelated framework between manager and employee. Key areas of the framework to be agreed are objectives, human resource management (see HRM), standards and performance indicators, and means of reward. For successful performance management, a culture of collective and individual responsibility for the continuing improvement of business processes needs to be established, and individual skills and contributions need to be encouraged and nurtured. One tool for monitoring performance management is performance appraisal. For organizations, performance management is usually known as company performance and is monitored through business appraisal.

    a type of financial incentive plan in which employees can acquire shares in the company in which they work and so have an interest in its financial performance. A share incentive scheme is a type of employee stock ownership plan, in which employees may be given shares by their employer, or shares may be offered for purchase at an advantageous price, as a reward for personal or group performance. A share option is a type of share incentive scheme.

The objective of a suggestion program is to promote employee involvement, creative thinking, and continuous improvement. Its success can be evaluated in terms of the participation rate, or by the level of cost savings, but there may be an incalculable beneficial effect on sales, customer loyalty, retention of employees, and motivation.
