( IPL)Créée en mars 1995 par l’Université du Michigan (Etat des Etats-Unis) dans le cadre de la School of Information and Library Studies, l’Internet Public Library (IPL) se définit comme la première bibliothèque publique de l’internet sur l’internet, à savoir une bibliothèque sélectionnant, organisant et cataloguant les ressources disponibles sur l’internet, et n’existant elle-même que sur celui-ci. Cette bibliothèque publique d’un genre nouveau devient vite une référence. L’IPL recense de manière pratiquement exhaustive les livres (Online Texts, avec 22.500 titres), les journaux (Newspapers) et les magazines (Magazines) disponibles sur le web.
