[dʒɪˊhǝuvǝz ˊwɪtnǝsɪz] «Свидетели Иеговы», религиозная секта, возникшая в Пенсильвании в 1872. Её основателем был Чарлз Т. Рассел [Russel, Charles T., 1852—1916]. Иегова [Jehova] — имя Бога в «Ветхом Завете», первой части Библии. Иеговисты считают, что надо верить буквально каждому слову в Библии, ходят по домам для ведения бесед на религиозные темы, считают войну злом, отказываются нести воинскую повинность или поступать на государственную службу, т.к. считают, что правительство не должно вмешиваться в дела совести, выступают против переливания крови.
