    May I write the test in pencil? No, you mustn't. — Можно писать контрольную работу карандашом? Нет, нельзя.

    (2). Разрешение не делать что-либо передается глаголом needn't или отрицательной формой модального глагола to have:

    You needn't/you don't have to come — Можете не приходить.

    (3). May 2. в значении возможности, вероятности события чаще употребляется в утвердительных предложениях. В отрицательных предложениях и для выражения сомнения, относящегося к будущему времени, чаще используются слова: probably, perhaps:

    He will probably write to you — Он возможно Вам напишет.
