113 Time conjunctions
Союзы, вводящие временные придаточные предложения: when, after, as, as long as, as soon as, before, by the time (that), during the time (that), now (that), once, since, until/ till, whenever, while. And then as I was hurrying off I heard him say, quite loudly, to the doctor: "I'll have no favourites on my ship".
б) while. There was silence while one might count ten - the master was gathering his wrath.
в) as, when. And just as he was telling himself that, there came to the door a loud knock.
2) before, until, as long as.а) Предложение с союзом before ("прежде чем") предполагает, что действие, о котором идет речь в придаточном предложении, имело место раньше, чем основное действие.reaching the town the hunter branched away into a narrow footpath which led to the mountains. When the alarm was raised, she had had no time to get up-stairs: she hid in the west wing until every one was down on the lower floor.
You'll never be a painter as long as you live.
This answer no sooner reached Britain, than the whole nation were transported with joy.
I had hardly walked half-way towards the house when Sir Percival, who had withdrawn in the opposite direction, suddenly stopped and called me back.
Inversion):was she out of sight, than Emma exclaimed, 'What an exquisite possession a good picture of her would be!' — Не успела она скрыться из виду, как Эмма воскликнула: " Каким исключительным достоянием мог бы быть ее портрет!"had Daisy opened her lips when a loud ring echoed through the house. Inversion after negatives

114 lead apes in hell
Katharina: "...She is your treasure, she must have a husband; I must dance bare-foot on her wedding-day, And for your love to her lead apes in hell." (W. Shakespeare, ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, act II, sc. 1) — Катарина: "...
The rest of Cleeve was almost derisive. What! Georgie had had the man all to herself for weeks, fair field and no competitor, and hadn't managed to hook him yet? A most incompetent girl, unworthy of sympathy. Serve her right if she had to lead apes in hell. (R. Aldington, ‘The Colonel's Daughter’, part V, ch. 2) — Но с другой стороны, Клив был настроен почти насмешливо.

When she received it, who had long received no letters... she... sobbed, laughed, clasped her hands on her breast, and without rhyme or reason began singing... Cronin, ‘The Judas Tree’, part II, ch.

120 Patole
PATOLE, PATOLOIn Surat and other parts of India the term means a plain weave all-silk fabric, richly decorated, having a border of tie-dyed or hand-clocked ornaments. The pieces are usually about 36-in. wide and 51/2 yards long. Exported to Java and the Sunda Islands and worn as a sari by the women there as well as in India. In Surat it is customary for a bride to be presented with such a sari by her maternal uncle on her wedding day. The yarns are separately tied and dyed by the bandana process. The figured design is produced by the arrangement of the weft which is dyed to give beautiful coloured effects although the weave is plain. Woven on hand looms and each pick is very carefully placed (see Bandana dyeing)
