11 -avvertire e to avert-
Nota d'usoIl verbo avvertire non va tradotto letteralmente con “to avert”, che significa evitare. Esistono diverse alternative per tradurre correttamente questo verbo: “to let sb know” e, più formalmente, “to inform” significano avvertire nel senso di far sapere: Dovresti avvertirli del cambiamento programma, you should let them know about the change of plan. “To warn” o “to alert”, invece, vengono usati in caso di un pericolo o di un'emergenza: La popolazione è stata avvertita, the population has been alerted; Ti avverto, la prossima volta non sarà così facile, I'm warning you, next time it won't be so easy. -
