(из лондонского сатирического листка времён отступления Наполеона из России) General Frost [Winter] (durch ein englisches satirisches Blatt zur Zeit des Rückzugs Napoleons aus Russland in Umlauf gekommen). Im Dezember 1812 erschien in London eine Karikatur auf Napoleon, auf der dieser "von dem General Frost rasiert", d. h. dem harten russischen Winter unterliegend, dargestellt war. Große Verbreitung fand der Ausdruck während des Großen Vaterländischen Krieges, als die faschistische Propaganda, um den durch die vielen Niederlagen gesunkenen Kampfgeist der deutschen Truppen zu heben, den Soldaten der Wehrmacht weismachen wollte, die einzige reale Kraft der Sowjetarmee seien "General Frost" bzw.
