La Guerra de Secesión (1861-1865), entre los estados del norte y los del sur de EEUU, se inició principalmente a raíz del problema de los esclavos. Abraham Lincoln, elegido presidente en 1860, se oponía a la esclavitud, pero sostenía que no le pondría fin.
