21 Reynolds v. Sims
"Рейнолдс против Симса"Дело в Верховном суде США [ Supreme Court, U.S.], решение по которому (1964) развило доктрину пропорционального распределения мест [ apportionment] в палатах законодательных органов штатов, впервые фигурировавшую в деле "Бейкер против Карра" [ Baker v. Carr] (1962). Суд определил, что в соответствии с положением о равной защите на основе законов [ equal protection of laws], содержащимся в Четырнадцатой поправке [ Fourteenth Amendment], места в обеих палатах законодательного собрания штата должны распределяться пропорционально численности населения в избирательных округах штата. Суд отверг аналогию между Сенатом США [ Senate, U.S.], члены которого избираются независимо от численности населения (по два сенатора от штата), и законодательными собраниями штатов.
