Se emplea, como locución nominal masculina, con el sentido de 'persona en quien otra tiene absoluta confianza y, por ello, puede hacer sus veces sin restricción alguna': "El propio Chubais y su álter ego en el Ejecutivo ruso, Boris Nemtsov, reniegan de una realidad que ha ahogado desde hace más de cinco años a la economía de este país" ( Abc [Esp.] 26.8.97); y 'persona real o ficticia en quien se reconoce o se ve un trasunto de otra': " Una niña ( álter ego de la autora) conduce la narración" ( Proceso [Méx.] 15.12.96).
