Индекс цен
Показатель динамики среднего уровня цен на товары, услуги или финансовые активы. Индекс рассчитывается на основе средних цен стандартного набора товаров и услуг (так называемой «рыночной корзины») в текущем году и соотносится с ценой той же «корзины» в базисном году, который принимается за 100. Наиболее известным является индекс розничных цен (retail price index (RPI)). Для расчета индекса розничных цен в Великобритании, например, за базу берется 1987 год (средний уровень цен = 100). В сентябре 2004 г. индекс равнялся 188,1, что свидетельствует о росте средних рыночных цен на 88% по сравнению с 1987 г. Индекс розничных цен можно использовать для измерения уровня инфляции и как дефлятор ВНП (см. GNP deflator). Широко распространены и другие индексы - индекс оптовых цен, индекс курсов акций (см. (инфляция) Устойчивый рост уровня цен и заработков в народном хозяйстве. Если рост заработков достаточно велик для того, чтобы повысить производственные издержки, происходит неизбежное дальнейшее повышение цен, что ведет к инфляционной спирали, когда темп инфляции постоянно и опасно (hyperinflation-гиперинфляция) повышается. Причины инфляции сложны и, видимо, не могут быть сведены к какому-то одному фактору, хотя, согласно теории монетаризма (monetarism), она является неизбежным следствием слишком быстрого роста денежной массы в обращении/денежного предложения (топеу supply); именно так объясняет инфляцию американский экономист Милтон Фридмен (1912-). Поэтому монетаристы считают, что здравый контроль за массой денег в обращении может ограничить инфляцию. Они также склоняются к той точке зрения, что высокая безработица сдерживает настойчивые требования о повышении заработной платы (те, кто сохранил работу, рады и той зарплате, которую они получают), а потому сдерживает инфляционную спираль. Это ведет и к сокращению общего спроса в хозяйстве. Последователи британского экономиста Джона Мейнарда Кейнса (1883-1946), напротив, считают, что инфляцию порождают иные факторы, чем масса денег в обращении. В соответствии с этой теорией низкую инфляцию и низкую безработицу можно обеспечить путем проведения жесткой политики доходов (income policy).
