Чрезмерные капиталовложения, особенно в обрабатывающую промышленность, ко времени окончания бума, произведенные вследствие излишне оптимистической оценки будущего спроса. С завершением бума осуществивший их предприниматель оказывается обладателем излишних мощностей и, следовательно, не в состоянии производить дальнейшие инвестиции. Является важным фактором роста безработицы и спада в экономике.
