  • 4 Modem

    MOdulator / DEModulator, wandelt digitale Computer-Daten in Töne um und umgekehrt. Ein Gerät zum Anschluss von Rechnern an das analoge Telefonnetz zur Datenfernübertragung u.a. für Fax, T-Online oder Internet. Ein M. kann am Rechner als Steckkarte auf dem Systembus oder an der seriellen Schnittstelle als separates Gerät angeschlossen sein. Vom Modem führt ein Telefonkabel zur Steckdose des Telefonanschlusses. Heutige Modems übertragen 28 800 bps, 33 600 bps oder 57 600 bps. Im digitalen Telefonnetz ( ISDN) ist eigentlich keine Umwandlung in analoge Information nötig, da die Information bereits digital vorliegt. Dennoch benötigt der Rechner zur Steuerung eine ISDN-Karte.
