1886-1976Sera siempre recordado como el director de Rebe lion a bordo (Mutiny on the Bounty, 1935), interpretada por Clark Gable y Charles Laughton, que consiguio el Oscar a la Mejor Pelicula. Escoces de nacimiento, fue actor de teatro en Inglaterra, antes de llegar a los Estados Unidos en 1913. En America empieza actuando para pasar a ser, algo mas tarde, guionista y director. Fue uno de los fundadores de la Academia de Hollywood, de la que fue presidente entre 1934 y 1935. Dirige mas de 130 peliculas, de las que cien corresponden al periodo mudo. No es un especialista del western aunque dirige algunos de cierto prestigio. Aparte del resenado Mutiny on the Bounty sus mejores filmes son, sin duda, Cabalgata (Cavalcade, 1933), y Si yo fuera rey (If I Were King, 1938), ambas de la decada de los 30, que fue con claridad la mejor para Lloyd desde el punto de vista creativo.The Lash (Sin patria). 1930. 75 minutos. En el obtuvo sus grandes exitos, sobre todo Ben- Hur (1925) y los dos filmes que hizo con Greta Garbo (La tierra de todos, The Temptress, 1926, y La dama misteriosa, The Mysterious Lady, 1928), o los que rodo con Rudolph Valentino (Sangre y arena, Blood and Sand, 1922) y con Douglas Fairbanks (La marca del Zorro, The Mark Of Zorro, 1920, y D’Artagnan, The Three Musketeers, 1921). Actor de teatro en sus origenes, sus dos primeras peliculas como realizador, en 1916, las rueda en Australia. En los Estados Unidos debuta en 1918. Su western sonoro es poco destacable. 1890-1964Actor con los Keystone Cops de Mack Sennett, empieza a dirigir a comienzos de los 20. A principios del sonoro realiza peliculas para la pareja comica formada por Bert Wheeler y Robert Woolsey. Trabajo con Deanna Durbin, los hermanos Marx, Shirley Tem ple y Fred Astaire, entre otros, sin desentonar en ningun caso. Tenia fama de ajustarse estrictamente al guion, sin permitir modificacion alguna, lo que le condujo a discusiones con algunos de los actores bajo sus ordenes. Cuando se retira, en 1959, ha dirigido ya 120 peliculas de casi todos los generos y pe lajes. En Inglaterra, bajo los auspicios de Alexander Korda, hace lo mejor de su obra, segun muchas apreciaciones, como la deslumbrante El ladron de Bagdad (The Thief of Bagdad, 1940), que cuenta con Michael Powell y Ludwig Berger como co-directores, pero no hay que desdenar ninguno de sus tres westerns para RKO, sutiles y con un estilo elegante y definido, que constituyen parte de su obra final.
