I v 1. любить, нравиться: to like smb, smth — любить кого-либо, что-либо; to like to do (doing) smth — любить делать что-либо; 2. Он употребляется в конструкциях to like smb, smth; to like to do smth и to like doing smth. соответствуют в английском языке конструкции типа to like it somewhere, где it занимает место дополнения:He likes it here very much — Ему здесь очень нравится.
В эту группу входят также глаголы to dislike, to love, to hate, to repeat, to discuss. (2). Would you like another cup of tea?
(3). See want, v (2). (4). See hate, v. (5). See fond, a. II prp так (же), как кто-либо, что-либо, подобно кому-либо, чему-либо: to be like smb, smth — походить, быть похожим на кого-либо, что-либо (1). They lived as all other people did. He like his wife hates cats — Он, как и его жена, ненавидит кошек.
The lake was like a bright mirror —
He needs a holiday like all other people — Он нуждается в отпуске, как и все.
It was not like him — Это было на него не похоже.
What is the weather like?
At a time like this — В такое время.
They worked like slaves.
She sings like a bird.
(2). Русским быть похожим, походить на кого-либо соответствует английское to be like smb:He is very much like his mother — Он очень похож на мать.
Русское быть похожим друг на друга передается сочетанием глагола to be с прилагательным alike:They are very much alike — Они очень похожи друг на друга.
(3). Русское похоже, что будет дождь (снег) передается сочетанием с глаголом to look:It looks like rain — Похоже, будет дождь.
I don't feel like joking.
